Monticello, KY: Old Glory Schoolhouse Wedding - Travis and Makala

Despite her easy-going personality, Makala had anxiously been awaiting this day for what felt like forever to her. After four years, she was finally going to marry her sweetheart. In fact, about 10 minutes before the ceremony started, she giddily asked, “Is it finally time for me to get married?!?” Soon after she floated down the aisle on the arm of her Dad, her many layers of tulle ballgown making her look like a princess. The preacher did a short but sweet ceremony, and just that quick Makala’s dream came true. She was so excited she danced back down the aisle with Travis, laughing.

Travis had met Makala at a cousin’s going away party. In fact, both of them were not supposed to be there, but as fate would have it both their plans changed last minute and they both ended up being able to be there. Travis was on the shy side, and it took a lot of talking on Makala’s part, but they both hit it off. Travis decided to ask Makala to marry him while they were on vacation at the beach. He had it all planned out until Makala ruined it by snooping around and finding the ring. Travis told her that “It may not be as glamorous, but we are still doing it anyway.” So, he did.

Thanks to Travis’s mom, touches of it being a holiday wedding like pine trees, evergreen garlands, and twinkle lights - graced surfaces everywhere around the old schoolhouse that the couple chose to exchange vows in. She handled almost everything so all the couple had to do was just show up and enjoy their day. She even had guests write their names on Christmas balls for the couple to put on their tree for years to come. Travis and Makala ended their day on a funny note. They had chosen a send-off with sparklers, not taking in account the many, many layers of tulle that made up Makala’s dress. So, instead of a leisurely walk through the sparklers, it was more of a terrifying run.

Travis and Makala, I am so glad that I ended up being available for your special day. It was evident from the tears so many cried over y’all, that you are both so loved. It was a joy to watch you become man and wife. I wish you both the best!
